South of Ireland Illustrated and Described

Cobh quayside fishmongers, c. 1900

Street vendors (South of Ireland)
From The South of Ireland illustrated: with descriptive letterpress and maps. Cork: Guy & Co., 1904(?)

Thanks to Cobh native Felix Meehan, archivist with the Abbey Theatre digital archive in NUI Galway, for identifying Admiralty Pier — now J.F. Kennedy Pier — in Cobh as the foreground location of the photograph. Spike Island is faintly visible on the background horizon, behind crown of head of woman wearing tartan shawl.
