The photograph captures an old lane off the Bandon Road lined with cottages. Many working class people lived in very poor housing conditions like those shown in the photograph during the first half of the twentieth century.

One of the many lanes that once led off the Bandon Road is shown in this old photograph. Very few of these lanes now survive in the area.
