1789: Murphy's map of Cork city

Murphy’s map of 1789 is an interesting map for a number of reasons. It was produced for the Cork Society for Arts and Sciences, a body that often discussed improvements to the city and some of these suggested improvements are listed on the map. Also it is the first map to show the newly reclaimed Patrick Street and the first to name Grand Parade, Grattan Street and Henry Street, all of which were built on former river channels.
