Some of the highlights of theatre in Cork in 1989 included Old King Cole, performed in the Triskell Arts Centre. Another performance of note in 1989 was Flynnie's People, based on accounts of the life of Fr James Christopher O'Flynn, well known amateur theatre producer in The Loft theatre — near the Firkin Crane in John Redmond Street, in the Shandon area of Cork. Another performance of note was Synge's Playboy of the Western World. The Christmas pantomime that year was Goldilocks and the three Bearswhich opened in Cork Opera House on 26 December.
